Case Study with Designer Vasilis Marmatakis confirmed for the first edition of How to Target the Eye
Happening as part of our summit How to Target the Eye, we are proud to announce our first guest: Vasilis Marmatakis, the acclaimed poster designer will present a Case Study panel.
Vasilis Marmatakis studied Graphic Design at Camberwell College of Art, MA Graphic Design at The Royal College of Art in London, and has been a researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. He worked in advertising as an art director and in 2003 he co-set up the design studio MNP, working across various media for a diverse range of projects including print, film, exhibition design and web. Since 2009 he has been working freelance and as a visiting lecturer at Vakalo College of Art and Design in Athens. Among others, he has designed all the main posters and film titles for Yorgos Lanthimos films (including The Favourite, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Lobster and Dogtooth). His work has been published internationally, won numerous awards in Greece and abroad and he has been invited to collaborate, lecture and exhibit his work in The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Cyprus, Belgium, Germany, Cuba and Austria. He lives and works in Athens, Greece.
Known by his disconcerting and graphically distinct designs, Vasilis’ work found its perfect match in the cinematic realm.
The case study will be taking place online and for free on June 18, upon registration, and aims to present, in great detail, Vasilis’ truly innovative campaigns and designs for cinema releases. We will discuss the genesis of his designs, how the visual ideas were rooted in the films, talk about the challenges and setbacks, and what can be learned for future works and campaigns. How To Target The Eye is the first European summit primarily focusing on film visual communication, aiming to discuss the state of the art of film graphics in the real world, the ‘digisphere’ and in between.
The 2021 inaugural edition invites leading designers and lm industry professionals from all over the world to talk about their work and discuss the role of film design. The two-days-programme will take place on June 18th and 19th, 2021. Various panels and talks explore past, present and future of film communication, including a special tribute to the memory of Hans Hillmann’s groundbreaking lm design work and a Film Design Competition.
The programme will be available online and for free, upon registration, which will be available soon.
